About Tom Zajac
"I enjoy discovering unknown and obscure films. I make short films with anyone interested and try to support local artists. I also volunteer at an independent arts centre, usually in running arts workshops for the public."
Tom helped set up and organises the longest running independent monthly cinema event in Berkshire, Stand Up Cinema. They promote filmmakers by screening their films alongside a main feature. Stand Up Cinema now regularly hosts experimental short film festivals at the Rising Sun Arts Centre.
His biggest passion is working closely with marginalised communities to try to get their voices heard by decision-makers. Groups he's worked with include slum-dwellers and indigenous communities but also local disadvantaged people.
Tom volunteers at and helps run, through the educational charity Real Time, the weekly Open Mind mental health filmmakers group.
He has over 20 years experience in video production being proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and Apple Final Cut Pro software.
Tom is familiar working in foreign countries and has produced corporate films in many major European cities over the past decade.
He's made documentaries in Mexico, Bosnia, Poland, Italy, the Philippines, Bangladesh and Kenya. Films he’s worked on have been screened in places such as New York University and appeared in publications such as Guardian Online.
Roles include: Producing, directing, camerawork, editing, promoting and training.
Tom has Polish as a second language.
